There is an important announcement coming from Los Angeles that we are thrilled to share with you. The MIDI Association, a non-profit organization that aims to improve MIDI technology for artists and musicians worldwide, has recently appointed Tim Carroll as their new president. Tim Carroll is not only the CEO of Focusrite Group, but also holds this significant position within the MIDI Association.
Carroll has been appointed as the leader for a period of two years, a choice that was made by the executive board of the MIDI Association. This decision comes at a significant point in the history of the association, as MIDI technology has recently advanced from MIDI 1.0 to the highly anticipated MIDI 2.0. With this new version beginning to emerge in various products and software, it is an exhilarating time for all individuals associated with the music products and related industries.
The selection of Carroll, who is highly regarded in the industry and serves as the CEO of Focusrite Group, is anticipated to receive widespread approval from both the members of the Association and the broader industry. Focusrite Group is the parent company of well-known synthesizer brands such as Sequential and Oberheim, as well as the MIDI controller and synth company Novation. Carroll and Focusrite Group are dedicated to maintaining and improving the legacy left by Sequential founder Dave Smith, who played a crucial role in the development of MIDI and introduced the first-ever synthesizer with a MIDI port 51 years ago.
In addition to overseeing MIDI for manufacturers and developers, the MIDI Association is also dedicated to advancing MIDI innovation, music education, and promoting the positive effects of music on well-being. Carroll will offer valuable expertise in these fields as the Association begins the process of awarding grants from the MIDI Fund, which is administered by the NAMM Foundation.
Carroll conveyed his excitement for his recently acquired position, emphasizing that this is a significant turning point for the MIDI Association. He believes that the industry has only scratched the surface of the capabilities of MIDI 2.0 and is eager to collaborate with the MIDI Association board and its members to shape the future of MIDI, making it more expressive, musical, and creative.
Keep watching for further updates as we track Carroll's progression in guiding the MIDI Association into its thrilling new phase!
