NUSofting Releases Eugene Filter VST Plugin for Free: A Unique and Resonant Audio Effect

  • by

For a limited time, you can purchase Future Audio Workshop's SubLab for only $10. Additionally, NUSofting has released a free version of their Eugene Filter VST plugin, which is now accessible for both Windows and Mac users. The original Eugene Filter plugin is priced at €10.

The developer provides the plugin in VST2 and VST3 formats for Windows operating systems (specifically 64-bit versions), and in VST3 and AU formats for Mac operating systems.

Eugene Filter is a software tool that acts as an audio effect plug-in. It stands out because it features a unique and innovative low-pass filter. This filter is technically referred to as a cascaded integrator-comb ladder.

The filter exhibits self-oscillation features that resemble the voltage-controlled filters typically seen in virtual analog synthesizers. However, this filter offers a broader range of resonances.

The unpaid version functions similarly to the Eugene Filter, but it does not include all the features available in the paid version.

On NUSofting's YouTube channel, there is a video that presents the Eugene Filter and its free version, illustrating the variations between the two releases.

According to the developer, the cascaded integrator-comb ladder filter created by NUSofting has a distinct quality. It is described as being airy and resonant, similar to the sound of a human voice.

Musicians and sound engineers have the ability to input any sound they want into the plugin, along with the noise generated by the plugin itself, and by adding a touch of chorus (which is also within the plugin), they can create fresh and unique sounds from any original source.

Additionally, instead of using a cascaded integrator-comb filter, it is possible to substitute it with a switch that emulates a typical 24dB/octave ladder analog low-pass filter. This substitution provides two different low-pass filter options.

The Eugene Filter Free version includes two low-pass filters that are capable of resonating, a noise generator, a chorus effect that operates in stereo, and various gain controls for the input, output, wet signal, and dry signal.

NUSofting, a single individual running the company, has streamlined the downloading process for Eugene Filter Free, making it simple and convenient. Once you choose the desired format, you can easily obtain the Zip file with just a single click.

The paid version of the software offers special features that are not available in the free version. These include an Envelope Follower, Random Walk LFO with adjustable Rate and Depth, and a preset selector that allows you to select from a choice of four presets.

The Envelope Follower keeps a record of the input level, while the Random Walk LFO adjusts the filter frequency, creating a range of effects from slow and smooth transitions to quick and chaotic movements.

The complete version of the software also offers the ability to adjust the size of the interface, a feature that is not mentioned in the list of features for the free version

The complete edition offers a wider variety of formats, since the paid version for Mac is able to work with AU, VST2, and VST3.

The plugins have the same version for Windows. Both Mac and Windows have the option to use VST2 and VST3 versions of the plugins in 64-bit.

At first, I didn't pay much attention to this plugin while I was downloading Nusofting's other free plugins since I already have a lot of filters. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of its sound. The graphical user interface (GUI) may not be visually appealing, but I think it's still worth downloading in my opinion.

I'm sorry

Who said that there is no pleasure in Eugene?
