Focusrite Group CEO Tim Carroll Named President of MIDI Association: Leading the Way into the Era of MIDI 2.0

  • by

In an exciting announcement from Los Angeles, Tim Carroll, the CEO of Focusrite Group, has been named as the new president of the MIDI Association. The MIDI Association is a non-profit trade organization that focuses on improving MIDI technology for artists and musicians worldwide.

Carroll has been appointed as the leader for a period of two years, a choice that was determined by the executive board of the MIDI Association. This is a significant moment for the MIDI Association since MIDI technology has recently advanced from MIDI 1.0 to the highly anticipated MIDI 2.0. As this new version begins to emerge in various products and software, it is a thrilling time for all individuals engaged in the music products and associated industries.

The industry is anticipating that Carroll, who is highly regarded and serves as the CEO of Focusrite Group, will receive widespread approval from both the Association membership and the larger industry. Focusrite Group houses renowned synthesizer brands such as Sequential and Oberheim, as well as the MIDI controller and synth company Novation. Carroll and Focusrite Group are dedicated to upholding and improving upon the legacy left by Dave Smith, the founder of Sequential and a key contributor to the development of MIDI, who introduced the first-ever synthesizer with a MIDI port 51 years ago.

In addition to overseeing MIDI for manufacturers and developers, the MIDI Association is dedicated to promoting MIDI innovation, music education, and the intersection of music and wellness. Carroll will offer valuable guidance in these domains as the Association begins to award grants from the MIDI Fund, which is administered by the NAMM Foundation.

Carroll shared his excitement regarding his recent position, stating that this is a crucial turning point in the history of the MIDI Association. He believes that the industry has only just started to grasp the potential of MIDI 2.0, and he is thrilled to collaborate with the MIDI Association board and its members to shape the future of MIDI, bringing forth more expressive, musical, and innovative possibilities.
