NUSofting Releases Eugene Filter VST Plugin for Free: Get the Unique and Resonant Sound of this Airy Low-Pass Filter

  • by

For a limited time, you can purchase Future Audio Workshop's SubLab for only $10. In addition, NUSofting has recently launched a free version of their Eugene Filter VST plugin called Eugene Filter Free. This plugin, which is normally priced at €10, can now be downloaded for free on both Windows and Mac operating systems.

The plugin is available for both Windows (64-bit) and Mac operating systems in VST2 and VST3 formats for Windows, and VST3 and AU formats for Mac.

Eugene Filter is a unique audio effect plug-in that features a revolutionary low-pass filter. This filter is known as a cascaded integrator-comb ladder and offers a completely new approach to audio processing.

The filter possesses properties of self-oscillation, resembling the voltage-controlled filters typically present in virtual analog synthesizers. However, it offers a broader range of resonances.

The unpaid version functions in a similar manner to the Eugene Filter, but it does not include all of the features found in the unpaid version.

There is a video on NUSofting's YouTube channel that highlights the Eugene Filter and its free version. The video aims to illustrate the variations between the two releases.

According to the developer, the cascaded integrator-comb ladder filter by NUSofting possesses a distinct quality; it is light and resonant, resembling a vocal sound.

Content creators have the ability to supply the desired input to the plugin and utilize the amplitude-controlled noise produced by the plugin. By incorporating a touch of chorus within the plugin, they can achieve fresh and unique sounds from any given source.

Moreover, instead of using a cascaded integrator–comb filter, a switch can be used to replace it with a simulation of a typical analog low-pass filter with a slope of 24dB per octave. This alternative provides two low-pass options.

The Eugene Filter Free version includes two filters that emphasize low frequencies, a generator that produces noise, a chorus effect that creates a sense of spaciousness in stereo, and controls for adjusting the input, output, wet (effected) signal, and dry (unaffected) signal.

NUSofting, a company run by a single individual, has made it convenient for users to download Eugene Filter Free. The process is simple: users can select their preferred format and with just one click, they can download the Zip file.

The paid version of the product offers some unique features that are not available in the free version. These include an Envelope Follower, a Random Walk LFO with adjustable Rate and Depth, and a preset selector which allows you to select from a total of four different presets

The Envelope Follower keeps track of the volume of the input, while the Random Walk LFO causes the filter frequency to change gradually from slow sweeps to rapid fluctuations.

In addition to the features mentioned in the free version, the full version also offers the ability to adjust the size of the interface.

The complete edition offers a wider selection of formats, as the premium Mac version supports AU, VST2, and VST3.

The Windows edition of both plugins is identical. They can be accessed in VST2 and VST3 formats on both Mac and Windows operating systems, specifically in the 64-bit version.

When I downloaded Nusofting's other free offerings, I didn't initially pay attention to this plugin as I already have enough filters. However, I was pleasantly surprised by its sound quality. The graphical user interface may not be visually appealing, but I believe it's still worth downloading.
