NUSofting Releases Eugene Filter VST Plugin for Free, Offering Unique Resonant Sound and Chorus Effects

  • by

For a limited period, you can purchase Future Audio Workshop's SubLab at a discounted price of $10. Additionally, NUSofting has recently released a free version of their Eugene Filter VST Plugin, which can be downloaded for both Windows and Mac operating systems. This version is the freeware alternative to the original Eugene Filter, which typically costs €10.

The developer provides the plugin in both VST2 and VST3 formats for Windows, specifically designed for 64-bit systems. Additionally, they offer VST3 and AU formats for Mac users.

Eugene Filter is a unique audio effect plug-in that features a revolutionary low-pass filter. This filter is technically referred to as a cascaded integrator-comb ladder and offers a distinct approach compared to traditional filters.

The filter possesses the ability to create oscillations on its own, much like the filters used in virtual analog synthesizers that can be controlled by voltage. However, this particular filter has a broader range of resonances available.

The free version works in a similar way to the Eugene Filter, but it does not include all the features that are available in the paid version.

The YouTube channel of NUSofting presents a video that exhibits the Eugene Filter and its free version, illustrating the distinctions between the two releases.

According to the developer, the cascaded integrator-comb ladder filter created by NUSofting has a distinctive quality. It is described as being light and resonant, similar to the sound of a human voice.

Music producers have the ability to provide the plugin with any desired input along with the noise generated by the plugin. By also incorporating a bit of chorus within the plugin, they can create fresh and unique sounds from any original source.

Additionally, instead of using a cascaded integrator-comb filter, a switch can be used to replace it with a typical analog low-pass filter emulation that has a slope of 24dB/octave. This replacement provides two different low-pass options.

The Eugene Filter Free version includes two filters that emphasize low frequencies, a tool to generate noise, a chorus effect that creates a stereo sound, the ability to operate in stereo mode, and controls to adjust the input, output, wet (processed) sound, and dry (unprocessed) sound

NUSofting, a company run by a single individual, has made it convenient to download Eugene Filter Free by providing a simple and straightforward process. Once you choose the desired format, you can easily obtain the Zip file with just one click.

The paid version of the product offers some special features that are not available in the free version. These include an Envelope Follower, a Random Walk LFO with adjustable Rate and Depth, and a preset selector that allows you to select from four different presets.

The Envelope Follower keeps a record of the input level, while the Random Walk LFO alters the frequency of the filter, creating a range of effects from gradual changes to more chaotic fluctuations.

In addition, the complete version of the software offers a feature that allows users to adjust the size of the interface. This feature is not mentioned in the list of features

The complete edition offers a wider selection of formats, as the Mac version that requires payment can be used with AU, VST2, and VST3.

Both Mac and Windows users can access the 64-bit versions of VST2 and VST3 plugins. The Windows version is identical for both plugins.

When I first downloaded Nusofting's other free plugins, I didn't bother getting this one because I already had enough filters. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how good it sounds. The graphical user interface is not visually appealing, but I think it's worth downloading in my opinion.
