We have some exciting news to announce from Los Angeles. Tim Carroll, the CEO of Focusrite Group, has been appointed as the new president of the MIDI Association. The MIDI Association is a non-profit trade organization dedicated to improving MIDI technology for artists and musicians worldwide.
Carroll has been chosen by the executive board of the MIDI Association to lead for a period of two years. This decision is significant as it coincides with a crucial point in the history of the MIDI Association, as the MIDI technology has recently advanced from MIDI 1.0 to the highly anticipated MIDI 2.0. As this new version begins to emerge in various products and software, it is an exhilarating time for all individuals involved in the music products and associated industries.
Carroll, who is highly regarded in the industry and currently serves as the CEO of Focusrite Group, is anticipated to receive widespread approval from both the Association membership and the broader industry for their appointment. Focusrite Group is the parent company of renowned synthesizer brands such as Sequential and Oberheim, as well as MIDI controller and synth company Novation. Carroll and Focusrite Group are dedicated to upholding and improving upon the legacy left by Dave Smith, the founder of Sequential, who played a pivotal role in the development of MIDI and introduced the first synthesizer with a MIDI port 51 years ago.
In addition to their role in overseeing MIDI for manufacturers and developers, the MIDI Association is dedicated to promoting MIDI innovation, music education, and the connection between music and wellness. Carroll will be offering valuable strategic input in these domains as the Association begins to award grants from the MIDI Fund, which is managed by the NAMM Foundation.
Carroll shared his excitement about his recent position, emphasizing the significance of this moment in the MIDI Association's history. He believes that the industry has just scratched the surface of what MIDI 2.0 can achieve and is eager to collaborate with the MIDI Association board and its members to shape the future of MIDI, making it even more expressive, musical, and creative.
Keep checking back for more news and updates as we track Carroll's progress in guiding the MIDI Association into an exciting new phase!
