Reba McEntire had a disappointing performance in a chili cookoff judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple in country music, they both brought their A-game and didn't go easy on each other in the competition.
McEntire took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff where Linn served as a judge. Despite their personal relationship, it did not sway the judging process in her favor.
McEntire actually finished in last place during the competition. As a result, she was awarded a humorous trophy featuring a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
Always being a good sport, McEntire posted a video on her social media of her unsuccessful cooking competition, even showing her gracefully accepting her position in last place.
The entire video below depicts the entire event, along with some additional interesting details. Country singer Terri Clark was also in attendance and came in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire talked about her unsuccessful experience at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
She forgot to add any spices to the dish, but instead added chili powder and hatch green chilis to make up for it. She was following a recipe from Texas and was really excited about how it would turn out.
Despite being Linn's girlfriend, she still ended up in last place. However, McEntire believes that her relationship status may have helped soften the blow when the judges announced the news.
Rex, who was one of the judges, approached me and quietly told me the news. He expressed his apologies and when I asked if he would reveal the winner, he replied that it was not me.
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper inside a toilet. So I took a picture with it," McEntire added.
Putting humor aside, McEntire also discussed her connection with Linn and what makes their relationship successful. They have been acquainted for a long time, meeting in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns starring Kenny Rogers, but their romantic feelings didn't develop until they reunited in 2020. During this time, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire pondered why they hadn't connected sooner. Rex pointed out that McEntire had been married before, which may have been a factor. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she feels she has become more mellow. She believes they have come together at the perfect moment.
Following this, McEntire will be going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new sitcom that will reunite her with some of the crew from her popular TV show, Reba.
