Reba McEntire came in last place in a chili cookoff that was judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple in country music, they don't go easy on each other in cooking competitions.
McEntire recently took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal relationship, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging process.
McEntire actually finished in last place. As a result, she received a comical trophy consisting of a chili pepper going down a toilet.
Always a gracious participant, McEntire posted a video on social media of her unsuccessful attempt at a cooking competition, showing her gracefully accepting the last place position.
The entire video below displays the event as it unfolded, with additional interesting details included. For instance, country singer Terri Clark participated and ended up in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire talked about her unsuccessful chili cookoff experience and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
"I accidentally forgot to add any spices," she confesses. "But I did add chili powder and hatch green chilis, thinking it would be enough. I followed a recipe from Texas and was really looking forward to the outcome."
Even though Linn's girlfriend status didn't help her avoid being in last place, McEntire believes that being in a relationship may have lessened the impact when the judges announced the results.
"Rex, who was one of the judges, approached me and quietly informed me. He expressed his apologies and when I asked if he would reveal the winner, he replied that it was not me."
McEntire shared that he was given a trophy shaped like a chili pepper and placed it in the toilet, making a joke about it taking a "dump".
Putting humor aside, McEntire discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind their successful relationship. They have been acquainted for a long time, meeting in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns starring Kenny Rogers. However, their romantic relationship did not begin until they reconnected in 2020. Prior to this, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire expressed curiosity about why they didn't connect sooner. Rex pointed out that one reason could be because she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while noting that she has become more relaxed over time. She believes they have crossed paths at a perfect moment in their lives.
Following that, McEntire will be traveling to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new comedy series that will bring her back together with some of the people who collaborated on her popular show, Reba.
